There are two significant projects in the works for El Paso High:
1) Drop-off and Pick-up Issues

Risher Gilbert, our membership VP, has been working on drop-off and pick-up issues at EPHS since her youngest, Meg, started EPHS. Stopping restrictions on Schuster, no parking zones, bus zones, crosswalks, historic structure status have all complicated this issue and continue to compromise the safety of the students, staff and everyone at El Paso High.

After more than 1000 hours of wrangling with district, city and traffic officials, two plans were presented and the PTSA voted to support the drop-off zone shown (the other was significantly smaller) with the request that lighting for the area be incorporated into the plan when it goes out for bid. The catch is that it is to be funded by the District and there are LOTS of other things on the district wish-list for improvements. As a PTSA, we need to be pro-active about this plan and get the support of El Paso High parents as well as parents in our feeder-pattern, to support this needed safety addition.

2) The El Paso High Marquee

The El Paso High Marquee was originally proposed by the EPHS Alumni Association in 1999 but foundered due to questions about their 501(c) 3 status. Dr. Roskosky requested Tina Wolfe, parent of Junior Erich, to spearhead the campaign to make this happen. Tina has been working for 2 years ironing out the bugs, working with planners, designers and contractors to come up with a funding estimate. The entire sign with electronics is budgeted to cost around $60,000. This is far more than the usual amount for a 'class gift' and quite outside the realm of our current parent body.

We need to develop a plan to contact current EPHS families, alumni and interested citizens to work together to raise the money for this project. If you are interested in heading a committee to work on this fundraising plan, please contact Lisa Palm - lisa@farcosales.com or 915-345-7125 to volunteer and plan on attending the January 8th meeting for a complete presentation.
