The El Paso High School girls swim team had more depth than the deep end of the Tigua Pool on Saturday, winning the District 1-4A championship.
"Our depth in the girls is really won the meet for us today," El Paso High coach Dow Farley said. "Everyone contributed. It was a total team effort, led by some great swimmers."
Sophomore Gaby Partida gathered three golds and a silver medal.
"We really worked hard and we knew we had a chance," Partida said. "At the beginning, we were so nervous. But as they announced the scores and our lead got larger, we started getting pumped up."
The win prevented the Chapin girls from winning a seventh straight district title.
El Paso High's Seth Williams was awarded the Swimmer of the Meet award for his three gold medals and one silver.
El Paso High boys finished second as Chapin boys took home the district title.
"I wasn't really expecting to get it, but with all the hard work I put in, I'm happy to get it," Williams said. "Basically, my goal was to go home with my head held up high."
